Handpans are a relatively new percussion instrument that produces a unique and soothing sound. They were first developed in Switzerland in the early 2000s and have since gained popularity worldwide as musical instruments and a tool for sound healing.
Gong bathing is a sound healing practice that has been around for thousands of years. The use of gongs in healing has been documented in ancient Chinese and Tibetan cultures, where gongs were used to balance the body's energy and promote healing.
In 1995, Gong Master Don Conreaux introduced Tracey to Gong bathing. He has produced Gong students in many countries and conducts training globally. Don's contributions to the Gong community include Gong Yoga of Holistic Resonance, Gong Therapy, The Gong Bath, The Gong Puja, and Gong Master Training in the Way of the Gong.
In some Eastern cultures, harmonious sounds have a healing effect on the body at a cellular level. In India, the ancient science of the impact of musical vibrations on the human organism is called Nada Yoga. Nada is the Sanskrit word for "sound," Nada Yoga means meditating on the inner sound, also called the sound of silence. Nada Yoga is an ancient Indian metaphysical system that is a philosophical system, a medicine, and a form of yoga. The system's theoretical and practical aspects are based on the premise that the entire cosmos and all that exists in the cosmos, including human beings, consists of Nada vibrations.
The handpan is a steel drum that is played by striking different areas of its surface with the hands or fingers. It produces a range of melodic and harmonic sounds that can be soothing and mesmerising. The sound of the handpan can be described as a blend of the steel drum, harp, and singing bowl, creating a unique and enchanting sound.
Gongs and handpans create a mesmerising sound that can be both a concert and a sound-healing experience. Combining the two instruments produces a range of sounds that can be both soothing and energising and can also help to release tension and promote healing at the cellular level allowing for a transformative experience for the mind, body, and soul.
